The features we actually used (and loved)

1. Keyword Magic Tool

This is the crown jewel. Type in any topic and SEMrush generates thousands of related keyword ideas, complete with search volume, keyword difficulty scores, and competitive density. What makes it exceptional is the filtering — you can narrow by difficulty, intent (informational vs commercial), questions only, and more. Finding low-competition, high-value keywords that your competitors haven't touched took us about 20 minutes instead of hours.

2. Competitor Traffic Analysis

Type in any competitor's domain and see their estimated monthly traffic, their top organic keywords, their best-performing pages, and their traffic trend over time. This is genuinely eye-opening. We found three content angles our competitors were ranking for that we'd completely overlooked — and started targeting them immediately.

3. Site Audit

SEMrush crawled our entire test site and produced a health score out of 100, plus a prioritized list of issues to fix — from broken links and slow-loading pages to missing meta descriptions and duplicate content.
